About Me

Morgan (MJ) Locke*

Who I Am:

  • By day, a nerd. An engineer who provides environmental compliance and sustainability management services, with an information management spin.
  • By night, a writer. Spinner of far-flung techie dreams—stories filled with planetary disaster. Spaceships, rogue AI’s, planet-eating machines, sentient tumors… and people who struggle to survive on the fringes of the world.

My Writings:

Up Against It is the first book in a new science fiction series, WAVE. A disaster wipes out most of the asteroid colonists’ air, energy, and water supplies. Jane, Phocaea’s resource allocation chief, and Geoff, a young man whose life is irrevocably altered by the disaster, must save their world and turn the tables on those who mean to destroy them.

Read more about it here, or download sample chapters.

I blog occasionally at Eat Our Brains, a mostly-quiescent SF writer blog, along with Brad Denton, Steven Gould, Rory Harper, Maureen McHugh, Madeleine Robins, and Caroline Spector.

If you read and enjoyed Up Against It, and want more Locke-ish goodness, check out my other works:

“True North,” in Gordon van Gelder’s Welcome to the Greenhouse, is coming in January 2011 from O/R Press. It’s the turn of the 22nd century, and climate change has come calling with a vengeance. Bear, a giant old man, scrapes out an existence amid the ruins of civilization. But he’s just going through the motions. He’s fed up with everything and is ready to follow his wife (and the other 99.9% of humanity) into oblivion. But his life is changed forever when a young woman he meets just won’t take extinction for an answer.
